Responsibilities

Job Purpose

 

The Lead Wind Technician provides support to the Facility Manager across all areas of the operating site, with a focus on resolving technical issues in the field through troubleshooting, investigation, and hands-on support. This role leads the use of maintenance documentation, reporting tools, and performance systems to support accurate reporting, performance improvement, environmental and safety programs, regulatory compliance, and reliable operation of generation equipment and related delivery systems.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the wind facility by providing technical leadership in the field, maintaining accurate operations data, and helping ensure site performance objectives are met.
  • Maintain operations data in PatternWORX and support accurate use of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ensure turbine downtime data is correctly coded in EKHO and support accurate event reporting.
  • Monitor and support adherence to site KPIs, including safety, Balance of Plant, inventory, and turbine performance metrics.
  • Support inventory management processes, including work orders, inventory counts, and related documentation.
  • Support outage planning in coordination with the Operations Control Center.
  • Provide technical support during outages and field work, including troubleshooting Balance of Plant and turbine-related issues.
  • Support environmental obligations, safety programs, regulatory compliance, and associated permit requirements.
  • Perform up-tower inspections, turbine performance analysis, and hands-on technical support for generation equipment and delivery systems.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

 

Experience Requirements

  • At least four to five years of technical experience in the power generation industry, wind generation industry, or military operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with CMMS systems, ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, AX-Dynamics, or similar systems, and performance reporting tools.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities, including the ability to resolve technical problems in the field.
  • Ability to use maintenance documentation, reporting systems, and performance tools to support performance improvement and accurate reporting.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to climb 80+ meter steel towers to perform maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting in the nacelle and hub.
  • Ability to frequently lift items weighing 1 to 60 pounds and occasionally lift items from 61 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and on short notice, including participation in an on-call schedule.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and around low and medium voltage.
  • Ability to make safe decisions for personnel and equipment, including stopping work when conditions are unsafe or outside comfort level.
  • Experience with maintenance and electronic testing equipment, including voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, meg-ohmmeters, infrared testers, hydraulic torque equipment, alignment tools, and various hand and power tools.
  • Willingness and desire to increase professional knowledge of turbine equipment, safety regulations, and site operating requirements; may require travel to other wind sites within the U.S. or Canada.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Knowledge of wind generation facilities and project management.
  • Licensed Electrician or Substation Utility Technician experience.
  • Procurement experience or data analytics experience.
  • Knowledge of market rules and NERC requirements as they apply to wind generators.
  • Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in wind plant operations, turbine troubleshooting, turbine performance analysis, and Balance of Plant support.

The expected starting hourly rate for this role is $38.46/Hr. - $51.92/Hr. USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
