Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Regulatory Compliance Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with reliability standards across applicable regulatory oversight entities, including but not limited to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), NERC Regional Entities (RE), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO), Independent System Operators (ISO), and Canadian provincial authorities applicable to the Cordelio operating fleet.

This role will lead the oversight and integration of the Cordelio reliability compliance program into Pattern Energy’s compliance framework while supporting ongoing program enhancement initiatives and remediation activities. The Regulatory Compliance Director will serve as a strategic compliance leader, ensuring a strong culture of reliability compliance across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee cordelio’s regulatory compliance program throughout the integration period with the pattern compliance program and provide regular status reporting to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Lead and significantly contribute to the successful integration of the cordelio compliance program into pattern energy’s established compliance framework.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, field operations, enterprise technology, legal, commercial management, epc, and development teams to ensure reliability compliance obligations are effectively managed.
  • Create, revise, and manage internal policies, procedures, and controls to maintain and strengthen reliability compliance across generation, transmission, and operational functions.
  • Monitor industry trends, evolving regulations, and changes to reliability standards; communicate updates and operational impacts to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee and manage nerc and regional entity asset registration processes.
  • Reduce reliance on third-party consultants by developing scalable internal compliance capabilities and expertise.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations related to compliance studies, audits, risk mitigation, and regulatory strategies.
  • Support a proactive, transparent, and accountable compliance culture across the organization.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in NERC compliance, system operations, and reliability compliance programs.
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, Regional Entity, ISO/RTO, and provincial reliability standards and requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or supporting reliability compliance programs within the power generation or renewable energy industry.
  • Expert knowledge of power markets with a strong focus on renewable generation assets.
  • Proven experience developing internal controls, compliance procedures, and scalable risk management programs.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical compliance concepts to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits, remediation activities, and compliance assessments preferred.
  • Existing industry relationships with regulatory entities, stakeholder groups, or trade associations focused on reliability compliance strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of NERC reliability standards and compliance programs
  • Familiarity with compliance management systems and audit documentation processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with regulatory reporting tools and compliance tracking systems preferred

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $149,000 - $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, family care benefits, employee assistance program, paid time off and bonding leave, paid holidays, 401(k)/RRSP retirement savings plan with employer contribution, and employee referral bonuses.
