JOB PURPOSE
The position will have responsibility for supporting data analytics necessary to support the Grid Integration and Analysis (GIA) Team to organize, automate, and optimize analyses of the U.S. power grid. The successful applicant will implement these strategies by learning the tools and processes used within the GIA Team and identifying, designing, developing, and implementing tools to enhance and expedite these tools and processes. The successful applicant will have a strong data analysis and coding background as well as a desire to learn new skills associated with the planning, control, and operation of the electric power grid.
DUTIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Support development, maintenance, and update of internal databases required to support analysis for identifying and assessing new interconnection and transmission opportunities.
• Develop automation tools to enhance the speed and accuracy of transmission and grid-integration analyses.
• Simplify and automate processes for collecting, validating, and preparing new datasets used in power flow and production cost simulation studies.
• Develop and update dashboards for quick reference of the status, location, and responsible parties for Pattern’s generation and transmission interconnection activities and transmission service positions across the U.S.
• Interview and collaborate with internal customers to understand functional requirements and translate them into tool specifications.
• Validate data used for analysis and implement quality controls to improve reliability and repeatability.
• Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all tools, processes, and procedures to support business continuity.
• Balance multiple competing priorities during periods of significant activity, including ongoing database maintenance and new tool development.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics/statistics, physics, or engineering, or demonstrated equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years of experience in computer programming and/or advanced data analysis automation (college work, internships, or part-time work may qualify).
• Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and analyze large datasets and databases.
• Strong interest in learning tools and processes associated with planning, control, and operation of the electric power grid.
Additional Requirements
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ask clarifying questions and document requirements clearly.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail for data validation and quality control.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and technical teams.
• Willingness and ability to learn new analytical tools and workflows used by the GIA Team.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Python and/or other coding languages (e.g., C++ or R) for automation and analysis of datasets.
• Experience developing tools that automate, organize, and/or expedite analytical workflows.
• Experience building dashboards and reporting views (e.g., for status tracking, ownership, and workflow visibility).
• Strong capability working with large datasets; data science background preferred but not required.
• Proficiency with typical software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
The expected starting pay range for this role is $80,000 - $108,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
