Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager of Operational Technology (OT) Operations is responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day operations of the OT infrastructure function. This role develops and executes strategies, technologies, and operational procedures to enhance system reliability, ensure compliance with NERC CIP requirements, cybersecurity, performance, and efficiency across the OT environment.

 

The position provides leadership for NERC CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection) and information security compliance initiatives, ensuring OT systems remain secure, regulatory requirements are met, and established controls are effective and sustainable. The Senior Manager oversees teams responsible for OT infrastructure, including server systems, applications, and end-user support.

 

This role partners closely with Engineering, Power Plant Operations, Information Security, IT, Network and Regulatory teams to maintain highly reliable OT systems to support SCADA, PLC, DCS, and MES platforms. The Senior Manager drives continuous improvement initiatives that increase uptime, operational safety, system visibility, and resilience.

 

This is a hands-on leadership position that balances strategic planning and project execution with operational support. The role collaborates with third-party vendors, system integrators, and internal stakeholders to deliver secure, compliant, and high-performing OT solutions aligned with business objectives.

 

Key Accountabilities

Due to the operational and on-site requirements, this role is limited to candidates who currently reside within Great Houston, Texas area.

 

OT Operations Leadership

  • Lead daily OT operations, including Field Services and Server teams
  • Execute OT projects from requirements gathering through commissioning, documentation, and steady-state support
  • Oversee staffing activities including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, and performance management
  • Develop team capabilities through mentoring, coaching, and technical development
  • Foster a high-performing, accountable, and safety-focused culture

NERC CIP & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with NERC CIP and internal security policies
  • Maintain and enhance security controls to meet regulatory and operational requirements
  • Support audits, documentation, and evidence management

 

Technology Strategy & Innovation

  • Evaluate new applications, products, and technologies
  • Develop and implement solutions that enhance reliability, cybersecurity, and operational efficiency
  • Align technology initiatives with business and operational objectives
  • Support standardization of OT configurations, naming conventions, and basic architecture across sites

OT Infrastructure Management

  • Manage deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades, and support of OT systems and infrastructure
  • Ensure high availability and resilience of production systems

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations DCOE, SCADA Engineering, IT, and other departments
  • Guide and support new projects and operational initiatives
  • Provide technical leadership to achieve departmental and organizational goals

Policy & Procedure Development

  • Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures for the OT team and end users
  • Ensure alignment with compliance, cybersecurity, and operational best practices

Vendor & Procurement Management

  • Manage procurement and lifecycle of vendor solutions and services
  • Evaluate and integrate new vendors and technologies into OT systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in OT systems, infrastructure, or industrial environments
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading and managing infrastructure teams
  • IT/OT certifications are a plus
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience managing and mentoring technical teams
  • Strong understanding of OT systems and infrastructure (e.g., SCADA, servers, virtualization, storage, backup & recovery, patching, networking, industrial systems)
  • Experience managing projects and delivering operational improvements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to make sound decisions aligned with regulatory requirements and established procedures.
  • Experience within Pattern’s OT Operations team or similar renewable energy environment
  • Deep familiarity with NERC CIP compliance requirements
  • Proven track record of building and sustaining high-performing technical teams

The expected starting pay range for this role is $118,000 - $160,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
