Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Civil Balance of Plant (BOP) Operator is responsible for supporting safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations through maintenance and repair of roads, civil infrastructure, and BOP-related assets. This role supports facility reliability by operating heavy equipment, performing routine and corrective maintenance, managing work area controls, and ensuring compliance with safety, DOT, and operational standards across the site.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform road maintenance and repair activities using motor graders and other heavy equipment to support facility access and operations (approximately 65%).
  • Conduct cattle guard clean-outs, inspections, and repairs to maintain safe access throughout the facility (approximately 10%).
  • Support BOP activities including underground splice repair and other civil support tasks as directed by Facility Managers (approximately 10%).
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance, including documentation, warranty tracking, and licensing compliance (approximately 10%).
  • Execute welding and fabrication tasks as required to support operations and infrastructure repairs (approximately 5%).
  • Maintain high standards of public safety and work area control, including coordination with landowners and internal stakeholders.
  • Plan daily work routes, schedule equipment usage and maintenance, and communicate work status and needs to Facility Managers.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience holding and maintaining a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Extensive experience operating heavy equipment including motor graders, skid steers, backhoes, tractor trucks, and similar machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot heavy equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations and licensing requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to manage multiple work areas across large geographic distances with strong time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate work activities with landowners and internal teams.
  • High attention to safety, public interaction, and compliance with operational procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple facility managers across assigned areas.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Heavy equipment operation (motor grader, skid steer, backhoe, tractor truck)
  • Welding and basic fabrication
  • Preventative maintenance and inspection documentation
  • Work area control and site safety management
  • DOT compliance and CDL maintenance

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected starting pay range for this role is $38.21 – $45.00 HRLY USD. This range is an estimate and may vary based on location, experience, education, and certifications. Pattern offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, life insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, a 401(k) with employer contributions, and bonus eligibility.
