Responsibilities

Job Purpose 

 

The Senior System Administrator’s primary role is to manage existing IT and Operations solutions and processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and then design and implement solutions that deliver requested results. This involves communicating, coordinating and participating in meetings with system stakeholders, software and services providers. Examples of implementations include infrastructure design improvements for security, reliability and redundancy as well as process and procedure documentation for peer and end-user training. The Senior System Administrator supports the efforts of the Lead Systems Administrator.

 

Key Responsibilities


System Administration & Infrastructure Management

    • Manage, maintain, and optimize OT servers, hypervisors (VMware/Hyper-V), storage, and backup systems across multiple wind, solar, and transmission sites.
    • Administer Windows Server and Linux environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and patch management.
    • Deploy, configure, and manage hyperconverged infrastructure solutions, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
    • Perform proactive system health monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

Project Support & Implementation

    • Act as a key contributor to OT and compliance projects, supporting the design, implementation, and integration of new applications and solutions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Cybersecurity, SCADA, Engineering, and vendors) to align technical requirements and ensure successful deployments.
    • Provide technical leadership in system migrations, upgrades, compliance initiatives, and modernization efforts.
    • Document project deliverables, architecture changes, and standard operating procedures.
    • Effectively multitask across multiple ongoing projects and operational responsibilities, ensuring deadlines and priorities are consistently met.

OT Security & Compliance

    • Ensure systems comply with NERC CIP Low/Medium Impact standards, including access controls, patching, logging, and change management.
    • Partner with Cybersecurity and Compliance teams to implement security baselines, remediate vulnerabilities, and support incident response.
    • Actively support compliance projects and regulatory initiatives, assisting with documentation, evidence gathering, and audit readiness.


Operational Technology & IT Edge Support

    • Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support for SCADA and substation environments, including troubleshooting outages and application issues.
    • Coordinate with site technicians, engineers, and vendors to resolve OT infrastructure issues.
    • Offer occasional assistance with IT edge systems (laptops, printers, and other end-user devices) to support site operations.

Qualifications

Education/ Qualifications/ Education Required 

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of system administration experience, with at least 2–3 years in OT/ICS/SCADA environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), VMware/Hyper-V, and Linux administration.
  • Experience with hyperconverged solutions strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with NERC CIP compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting IT/OT projects and compliance initiatives.

Technical Skills

  • Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, PKI, and RODC administration.
  • Backup/restore technologies (Veeam, Commvault, or equivalent).
  • Monitoring platforms (PRTG, SolarWinds, or similar).
  • Networking fundamentals: VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, segmentation between SCADA/DMZ/Corporate zones.
  • Scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, etc.).

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure, real-time operational environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask effectively, managing multiple projects (OT, compliance, and operational) simultaneously.
  • Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to drive projects independently and deliver results.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25–40% travel to Pattern Energy sites across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Occasional international travel may be required for project execution or training
