Responsibilities

Job Description

 

The position's primary area of focus will be to conduct modeling and analytical activities to support pricing, product, and offtake decisions relating to new and existing offtake agreements. This includes analyzing different renewable deal structures, historical and forward market prices, and market fundamentals and policy. Other areas of focus include general transaction support covering all aspects of the Origination team's efforts in sourcing, structuring, analyzing, negotiating, and executing offtake agreements with new and existing customers. This includes proposal drafting and tracking, customer intelligence and tracking, as well as internal coordination across teams of subject matter experts required to originate new business and bring transactions through the execution process.  

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct modeling and analytical activities to support pricing, product, and offtake decisions relating to new and existing offtake agreements. Demonstrate impact on project economics with sensitivities to identify and support key investment drivers of the development asset.
  • Support Origination & Power Marketing leads in the process of negotiating and closing power purchase agreements and other revenue contracts.
  • Liaise with structured finance team on relevant pricing and structuring activities and full integration of offtake structures into financial models. Create and oversee energy development models to support origination and power marketing teams.
  • Integrate input from a variety of internal functional areas into a cohesive and succinct product for internal approval processes and external offtake proposal purposes.
  • Conduct research on new markets, offtake products, and risks, as well as due diligence on acquisition targets and greenfield opportunities.
  • Interface with customers, coordinate proposal timelines and drafting with internal subject matter experts, and generally assist in the preparation of official presentations to counterparties.  
  • Manage Origination's internal data hubs (CRM, SharePoint) to ensure accuracy and create visibility across the organization.
  • Analyzing and interpreting complex data and clearly articulating the results while drawing conclusions that help drive key decision making across the offtake execution process. Staying connected with the commercial leads to understand factors that influence pricing and off structuring.

  • Staying up to date on market trends affecting energy market pricing, customer demand for Pattern's projects, and project economics.

  • Juggling competing deadlines with shifting prioritization. Continuous project management of internal teams to turnaround Customer requests or dig into issues as they arise.

  • Simultaneously handling a variety of projects such as live transactions, early stage development research for offtake and customer strategies, and special projects with changing priorities and deadlines.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Finance, Engineering, Math, or Economics, with an advanced degree and/or CFA certification as a plus.

  • Two years in an analytical role within the energy sector is desirable. Exposure to utility-scale, renewable energy development is strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of the structure and function of the North American wholesale and bulk power markets. Familiarity with offtake structures, power purchasers, and other key power marketing concepts related to utility-scale renewable power plants Exceptional analytical skills and understanding of relevant project finance modeling concepts. Knowledge of common data synthesis tools and techniques in Excel (or equivalent program), such as Index/Match, Data Tables, and VBA/Macros.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express ideas effectively and fluently. Ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic are essential. Ability to synthesize and organize large amounts of data. Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities.

  • Attention to detail, quantitative acumen, knowledge of product, knowledge of offtake structure, taking initiative, meeting deadlines, effective communication internally and externally, and a team player.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $41.00 - $56.00 Hourly USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
