Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Community Engagement Associate provides essential field support to advance Pattern's community engagement objectives by executing on-the-ground stakeholder outreach activities and supporting grassroots campaign implementation. This role serves as the primary field liaison between Pattern and local communities, assisting in relationship building, event coordination, and information gathering to support the Community Engagement Manager and Development team’s strategic initiatives. The Associate will contribute to Pattern's success by ensuring effective local presence and community connection in project development areas.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Execute field-based community outreach activities including door-to-door canvassing, local business visits, and community event participation to build awareness and support for Pattern projects.
  • Coordinate and provide logistical support for community meetings, public information sessions, and stakeholder events, including venue setup, materials distribution, and attendee registration
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and information gathering in assigned communities, identifying key local influencers, concerns, and opportunities for engagement
  • Assist in the implementation of grassroots campaigns by distributing materials, collecting feedback, and maintaining regular communication logs and activity reports.
  • Support the Community Engagement Manager by providing regular field reports, stakeholder feedback, and local intelligence to inform strategic decision-making
  • Maintain accurate records in CRM systems and databases, documenting all stakeholder interactions, community feedback, and engagement activities

Qualifications

Qualification:

  • Education: 
    • A bachelor’s degree or higher in public affairs, communications, political science, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in public affairs, communications, community organizing, or campaign management, preferably in renewable energy
    • Proven experience in designing, executing, and documenting grassroots campaigns involving a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong writing and communication skills and experience drafting messaging and materials.
    • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM database management.
    • Experience with event planning and coordination
    • Ability to work independently in field settings with minimal supervision
    • Comfort working in rural communities and engaging with local residents
    • Flexibility to adapt communication style to different audiences and situations
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to remain professional and calm in challenging or confrontational situations
    • Willingness to travel (up to 60-70% travel required)
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Additional Requirements
    • Extensive travel required (60-70%)
    • May require work during evenings and weekends to accommodate community schedules
    • Position involves significant outdoor work and door-to-door activities in various weather conditions
    • Regular reporting requirements including weekly activity summaries and stakeholder interaction logs
    • Opportunity to gain experience across multiple projects and geographic regions

 

Approximate weekly time commitment: 40 hours, primarily during standard workdays, with some evening and weekend hours required. The expected hourly pay range for this role is $30.00 to $50.00 USD. This is a contract position. All expenses associated with this position, including travel costs, will be fully reimbursed. 50% + travel required.
