JOB PURPOSE


The Director, Energy Risk Management will lead the Middle Office function that provides trade control and risk management expertise for the company’s Energy Management activities in the wholesale power and renewables markets in USA and Canada.

 

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for monitoring of the company’s Energy Management trading activities for compliance with the trading policies, limits, internal controls and market regulations
  • Maintain and develop the company’s energy risk management policies, procedures and risk metrics
  • Management and mentoring of manager and analyst level employees
  • Engage and maintain effective relationships with traders, originators, and other business units to understand risks within the company’s portfolio of merchant assets
  • Responsible for the distribution of daily, weekly and monthly energy risk reports to management
  • Management of collateral posted with the ICE futures exchange and ISOs (e.g. ERCOT, CAISO)
  • Organize and lead the company’s Energy Market Risk Committee meetings
  • Risk assessment of proposed new trading products, strategies or structured deals
  • Take a lead role in cross-functional project teams to further improve and automate internal processes, controls, reporting and technology systems 
  • Contracting ISDA, WSPP and EEI master agreements with new counterparties for bilateral sales of power and Renewables Attributes (RECs, carbon offsets, etc.)
  • Ensuring all new counterparties undergo Know Your Customer (KYC) and counterparty credit review processes
  • Keep appraised of energy market rules and regulations, new developments and market intelligence 

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Business, Economics or similar commercial or quantitative subject. 
  • 8-10 years’ relevant experience in commodity risk management, compliance or trading.
  • Additional Requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of US power or natural gas markets, preferably with knowledge of market operations in ERCOT and CAISO and renewable
  • generation
  • Prior experience in using ETRM systems such as Allegro Horizon
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of numerical and analytical skills to understand movements in position, P&L or risk metrics
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention for detail
