Responsibilities

Job Purpose 

The Director, Business Development will lead renewable project/portfolio development with responsibility for all aspects of project development including: project management including budget, schedule, achievement of key development milestones, commercialization strategy, new project origination, and internal and external relationship management. The Director will also potentially support in project acquisitions, partnerships, and business unit refinement of business strategy. Day to day responsibilities include leading defined regional portfolio/project development activities, leveraging existing Pattern resources for project advancement, and making project/portfolio investment recommendations (in accordance with Pattern Energy transaction processes, including drafting internal approvals, etc.).

 

Key Responsibilites:

  • Manage development of large, complex renewable portfolio / projects, including coordination with internal stakeholders and management of external consultants. These responsibilities include internal coordination on design, economic analysis, permitting, site control, transmission/interconnection etc.
  • Source new development opportunities in the US market. Provide appropriate leadership for development risk analysis, transmission screening, economic analysis etc.
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders and partners including utilities, landowners, community stakeholders, etc.
  • Prepare and lead management presentations and internal reporting on business opportunities and risks, value proposition, upcoming milestones, recommended investments, etc and provide support for investments to senior management and board members.
  • Manage a team of developers on key project development activities.
  • Create and maintain project budgets, schedules, and development plans for each project for which you have responsibility.
  • Provide support and potentially participate in origination activities associated with your projects, in coordination with the Origination team, including responding to RFPs, quarterbacking financial model inputs, preparing for discussions with customers/partners, etc.
  • Coordinate with Finance Dept. to provide inputs to, and confirm the financial pro forma for each project under your purview.
  • Support in M&A tasks for Pattern’s North America business pre-NTP pipeline, including development of target acquisition list, offer preparation, commercial negotiations, securing internal approvals, leading diligence; an on as needed basis.

Support 3rd party project financing working closely with Pattern finance team when projects are ready to proceed to that stage

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Sciences.

Required Work Experience

  • 10-12 years of experience in the electric power industry, with preference for direct experience in solar and wind power development.
  • Experience in project development, power marketing / origination, project finance and M&A.
  • Strong network of industry contacts from which to generate investment or development opportunities.
  • Proven track record of success.

  • Ability to initiate, structure, negotiate and close complex deal oriented contracts, including managing and appropriately interacting with both internal and counterparty deal and legal teams.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $137,000 USD - $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
