Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

This position will have accounting responsibility for revenue arrangements for multiple operating wind and solar projects. The incumbent will work closely with the other accountants within the revenue group based in Houston, as well as site facility managers, customers and certain equipment and service providers.  In addition, this role will interact with individuals from other internal groups such as Asset Management, Energy Management, Finance, Meteorology, and Power Marketing.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Record all revenue sources, including electricity sales contracted via Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), energy hedge valuations and derivative settlements, sales of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and other environmental attributes, merchant energy sales, accounting for imbalance energy settlements, tracking compensation for production shortfalls (if applicable), accounting for liquidated damages, and other revenue arrangements
  • Prepare revenue journal entries during the monthly close process and perform reconciliations of all related accounts
  • Prepare invoices for offtakers and manage billing true-ups
  • Read, interpret, and summarize project contracts to assure proper accounting and compliance
  • Hands-on use, data entry and navigation of Pattern’s general ledger, and reporting software (Currently Microsoft Dynamics 365). Will need to learn to generate Dynamic reports from AR and AP module to take full advantage of Dynamics data
  • Participate in annual external audit by managing auditor PBC requests and providing and understanding of requested transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls for revenue processes
  • Perform analytics on revenue results, consolidated and proportional megawatt hours (MWh) sold, average realized electricity price, and other revenue metrics
  • In coordination with Technical Accounting, read, interpret and apply current and future US GAAP lease guidance, derivative guidance and/or revenue guidance for each revenue arrangement. Specially, this involves having a strong grasp of concepts underlying ASC 606 – Contracts with customers.
  • Assist in preparing fluctuation analyses in support of Management financial analysis
  • Work with Asset Management, IT, and other teams as needed to research and implement a billing and account receivable module/tool to work in conjunction with current accounting systems.
  • Manage auditor requests related to revenue and receivables, ensuring timely completion of supporting schedules and fluctuation analyses
  • Generate and analyse A/R aging
  • Prepare and maintain desk procedures
  • Participate in the preparation of annual revenue budgets and forecasts
  • Other special projects as assigned

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Educational Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent major required. An active CPA license or Canadian Chartered Accountant designation highly preferred.

 

Required and Preferred Work Experience

 

The following criteria will be used as a basis for Pattern to select a qualified applicant:

  • Minimum of 4-8 years of relevant revenue accounting experience
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical revenue guidance
  • Ability to review key terms or revenue arrangements
  • The following experience is preferred:
    • Renewable energy industry experience
    • Consolidation, equity method accounting with minority interests
    • Understanding of various electricity markets, including ERCOT, PJM and CAISO
    • Revenue accounting experience at a US public company

 

Additional Requirements

 

Must possess strengths in the following:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate hands on technical skills with a keen, thorough attention to detail.
  • Revenue accounting background and familiarity or experience with applying appropriate revenue recognition models for the various offtaker arrangements.
  • Commitment and ability to meet deadlines for monthly recording of revenue journal entries and invoicing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, follow-through, and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines
  • Self-starter with flexibility, desire and eagerness to learn, willing to ask questions and take ownership of revenue at the company.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must have ability to contribute in operations meetings and be well versed with revenue activities for multiple projects.

 

Technical Skills

 

Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred.

 

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $112,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
