Responsibilities

Job Purpose

Pattern Energy is looking for a Senior Manager, Commercial Origination. This hire will support origination team efforts in sourcing, structuring, analyzing, negotiating, and executing offtake agreements with new and existing customers. The Senior Manager, Commercial Origination will understand contract terms and negotiation sufficient to project manage the contract execution process with oversight and guidance from the senior members of the team and Origination & Power Marketing head.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the origination, structuring, negotiation and closing of transactions with new and existing customers with support and direction from the more senior members of the team and Origination & Power Marketing group head.
  • Develop customer product solutions; generate proposals and pricing; originate and assist with the structuring and closing of transactions in collaboration with development, finance, engineering, policy, new markets and fundamentals, trading, operations and asset management, and the commercial leadership of the transaction.
  • Identify new origination prospects and implementation of customer outreach strategies for all products and technologies under development.
  • Regularly communicate and seek guidance on developments with customer outreach, deal status and timing expectations, and any material deal points or other gating items (via the workload pipeline tracker, RFP tracker, and other tracking tools utilized by the team).
  • Continuously monitoring project economics (LCOE, IRR hurdles) throughout the development lifecycle required to inform offtake price hurdles, while in parallel maintaining an awareness of pricing and structural trends in the industry.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer and business relationships. Represent Pattern at indsutry events to help drive company awareness and build new relationships.
  • Prepare and deliver internal and external memos and presentations.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • BA/BS degree in business, finance, economics, engineering or related area combined with at least 6 years of experience in energy, power marketing, trading, or project finance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in energy originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing contracts in a power marketing and/or energy procurement, trading, or project finance role.
  • Experience analyzing market data, presentation and proposal writing, identifying relevant customer base, and a track record of successful execution of complex transactions.
  • Intimate knowledge of the commercial structures and market terms associated with complex energy project development, including material project contracts, offtake contracts, commercial partnership structures, and financing transactions.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. power markets to include ISO, RTO, and bilateral energy markets and/or commodities trading experience. Experience working with utilities and other load serving entities a plus.
  • Knowledge of green hydrogen production and storage methods, technologies, supply chain leaders, and project evaluation metrics.
  • Legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding green hydrogen production and exports in the United States and Canada.

Must possess strengths in the following:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to breakdown and effectively articulate technical and other complicated subject matter to a wide variety audience.
  • Proficiency in French is strongly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Highly driven, detail-oriented, hard-working individual with high standards.
  • Ability to work well with several different functional teams (e.g. development, operations, finance, and accounting).
  • Must be numerate with the ability to work easily with valuations, offtake structure, and other forms of revenue optimizations.
  • Ability to work well as a team member and a team leader.
  • Take initiative to find new customer relationships and learn new markets.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $128,000 - $170,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
