Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The position will lead the Environmental Health Safety and Training department within Pattern Energy to support the global operations and construction teams in achieving our goal of 0 injuries and a culture of protecting each other from harm.

 

Key Accountabilities

This individual will select, train, develop and lead a team to execute on the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee continuous improvement and implementation of a full range of EHS and Training management system, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide leadership to foster a comprehensive safety culture to drive behaviours that prevent incidents.
  • Schedule and perform environmental, health, and safety assessments and develop action plans to correct deficiencies. Work with facility management to execute action plans.
  • Conduct and/or oversee incident investigations for accidents which occur on Pattern operating and construction sites.
  • Develop, provide and vet outside vendors for safety training to field personnel to ensure their EHS and technical competence.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices at facilities on an ongoing basis and develop hazard control practices and programs.
  • Develop and monitor operations leading safety key performance incidents, calculate and report companywide safety statistics and provide benchmarking data to better understand Pattern Energy’s safety performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain, monitor and improve Pattern Energy’s EHS reporting software.
  • Maintain Pattern Energy’s safety contractor management program through ISNetWorld to ensure that contractors meet Pattern Energy’s EHS standards for performing working on our sites.
  • Coordinate with corporate training and facilities (office safety) groups for consistency in these areas.
  • Oversee organizational compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and international environment, health and safety regulations.
  • Corporate reporting to the Board of Directors on safety performance and quarterly reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer on safety compliance.
  • Represent Pattern Energy in wind energy trade associations and other peer to peer groups.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

 

Required Work Experience

Position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in an EHS role with increasing responsibility, and 3 years of experience managing a team of at least 3 direct reports. The ideal candidate should have experience in utilities or wind energy technology, electrical operations and balance of plant.

 

Educational Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental science, industrial hygiene, engineering or other closely related degree.  Job experience, professional development and continuing education may be substituted for educational experience.

 

Additional/Preferred Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel with short notice domestically and internationally up to 75% to support remote projects.
  • Ability to occasionally perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at facility locations.
  • Willingness and ability to climb up to 300 feet on a vertical ladder.
  • Power generation/wind industry specific EHS experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; Word, Excel, PPT, and others is required.
