Support the Market Operations, Asset Management and Power Marketing functions in providing services related to scheduling power and transmission in various power markets for Pattern’s fleet of operating wind farms in the ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, and other energy markets.  Support Market Operations in other key functional responsibilities including revenue settlement analysis,  management of renewable energy credits (RECs), and optimized dispatch.


Key Accountabilities

The key responsibilities will include the following:


Transmission Reservations Management and Scheduling

  • Maintain summary of transmission reservations; manage reservations in OASIS including performing trans-assignments and redirects as needed
  • Understand Long Term Transmission Service Agreements to ensure compliance with and optimization of all terms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to transmission reservations scheduling, tagging, invoicing and other tariff-based activities
  • Create transmission reservations for backfeed power service from Western Interconnect (WI) to its customers and provide Accounting with required information for issuing invoices
  • Identify and monitor transmission line outages and determine the scheduling impact to the assets
  • Identify alternate transmission paths to schedule energy during line outages
  • Perform monthly energy and transmission checkouts with transmission providers and Balancing Authorities
  • Investigate tariffs and business practices of Transmission Providers as needed to understand requirements for procuring scheduling, tagging and settling transmission
  • Monitor transmission service providers transmission tariffs to anticipate changes to rates and business practices
  • Review invoices from Transmission Providers for proper application of tariff for long-term use charges, ancillary services, and financial losses
  • Provide Asset Management with budget, forecast and accrual inputs for transmission costs
  • Monitor the activities of the transmission sharing arrangement between the Broadview, Grady and El Cabo wind facilities
  • Support Regulatory in managing the configuration and/or updates of the WI OASIS, management of OATI certificates, or in enforcing requirements of the WI open access transmission tariff, as needed
  • Support Market Ops in resolution of primary inadvertent



Power Scheduling

  • Establish scheduling protocols and ensure proper documentation, implementation, training and coordination with third-party Scheduling Coordinators, Balance Authorities, and ISOs
  • Monitor scheduling process and practices for compliance and optimization of facility performance
  • Understand the major settlement impacts of scheduling activities
  • Understand the requirement for some sites to maintain dynamic schedules and the actions to fulfill this obligation
  • Ensure proper procedure or checklist is implemented and maintained for start-up or energization of a facility
  • Coordinate with the Pattern 24/7 control center to ensure proper real-time monitoring and alarming of key scheduling, tagging and transmission parameters
  • Develop escalation methodologies and division of responsibility between 24/7 OCC desk and non-real time Market Ops personnel
  • Manage scheduling operating procedures between facilities, Market Operations and third parties to ensure compliance and optimized performance  



Analytics, Optimization and Growth Strategy

  • Assist Power Marketing and Asset Management in optimizing revenue through enhancements in scheduling, bid strategy, day-ahead trading and other power marketing activities
  • Interface with power marketing service providers including third party schedulers with the goal of minimizing power marketing costs and optimizing revenue
  • Support Market Operations in monitoring curtailment activity and understanding primary drivers including economic bids, transmission limitations, or reliability directives
  • Support Market Operations in the commercialization and administration of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)
  • Support Pattern Development with understanding and assessing resource requirements of future transactions
  • Support Pattern Development, Construction and Asset Management in bringing new projects into operations
  • Explore the requirements of a Scheduling Coordinator in existing and new power markets and assess Pattern’s ability to perform this role
  • Evaluate Pattern’s use of third party service providers for scheduling, REC management, retail energy provider services, and other consulting services in an effort to increase revenue or reduce costs



Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Educational Experience

A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering or a related field is required or can be satisfied with relevant work experience.

Required Work Experience

Minimum five years of experience in scheduling of power assets in day ahead and real time power markets including procuring transmission and e-tagging.

  • Understanding of power market operations inside and outside of organized markets.


Technical Skills

Computer skills –.proficient in Microsoft Office suite.  Proficient with OATI modules for scheduling power and transmission, reviewing outage logs, and e-tagging.
