Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

Manage the engineering, procurement, and construction of solar Utility-scale solar projects throughout the world, mainly focusing on the US and Mexico. Provide due diligence review of all project construction related documents, contracts, and field work, including providing direction to Construction Site Manager, executing construction contract agreements, and providing general support of ongoing development activities and asset management.


Key Accountabilities

The key responsibilities will include as a minimum the following:

  • Provide Balance of System (BoS) estimates, commercial and technical due diligence and support of solar generation projects to the development team during development phase.
  • Develop procurement strategy in coordination with solar development team’s business plan
  • Review developer construction related documents for completeness and compliance with utility interconnect agreements, power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, environmental permits, and good industry practice.
  • Lead the solicitation of BoS contract proposals, review of bid documents and overview of proposal evaluation, and contractor selection.
  • Support the procurement of modules, inverters, main power transformers, and other major equipment that is supplied by Pattern
  • Provide overview of interface with major equipment suppliers.
  • Ensure division of responsibility is coordinated between BoS contractor and Owner supplied equipment vendors. Ensure schedule and delivery provisions of major equipment agreements are compatible with project needs.
  • Provide support and direction to Construction Site Manager to ensure field work is safely executed in accordance with contract documents and Pattern Energy standards.
  • Ensure that notifications and submittals required by the respective contracts are provided in accordance with the terms of the agreements. Monitor construction progress and implement changes as necessary to maintain project budget and schedule.
  • Provide overview of project interface with interconnect utility. Ensure documents and drawings required by interconnect and power purchase agreements are provided in a timely manner. Provide and review monthly progress report with utilities.
  • Participate in the management of third party technical engineering support of project work, particularly relating to the design and performance of major equipment.
  • Review and comment on Independent Engineer’s due diligence reports for active construction projects as well as development opportunities. Ensure timely approval of design documents and resolves technical issues relating to project design.
  • Provide project interface with Pattern management and construction lenders. Furnish monthly reports and status updates per lender requirements.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and/or construction management

 

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum 5-10 years progressive responsible experience in the power industry with significant solar energy experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multi-million dollar construction projects on schedule and within budget. Field experience desirable.
  • Knowledgeable in specific solar engineering design concepts (PVSyst, solar facility optimization)
  • Demonstrate an understanding industry trends BoS costs and PV equipment
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve multiple issues on multiple projects under demanding schedule constraints.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contact concepts, language and terms.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts. Familiarity with transmission and distribution equipment, overhead and underground cable installation, reactive power compensation equipment, and SCADA systems helpful.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and diplomatic abilities
  • Must be proficient in typical software applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project or Primivera.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing and capable of traveling worldwide.
